Gasto social y crecimiento económico en américa latina. Periodo 1990-2016
Resumen
La presente investigación analiza la relación bidireccional entre el gasto público social y sus diferentes categorías (salud, educación y seguridad social) con el crecimiento del Producto Interno Bruto para países de América Latina durante el período 1990-2016. Con la finalidad de verificar le hipótesis de bidireccionalidad, se aplicó la metodología de vectores autorregresivos para datos de panel (PVAR) con efectos fijos. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que existe doble causalidad entre el gasto social total, los tipos de gasto social y el PIB, lo que pone en evidencia que no es suficiente aumentar el PIB (desarrollo económico), sino que también es necesario mejorar el contexto y el bienestar social de la población (desarrollo humano). Sin embargo, el gasto social tuvo un impacto positivo en el PIB, mientras que éste afectó de forma negativa al gasto público social en los períodos subsiguientes.
